Walking on the frozen river of Zanskar is the ultimate experience for an adventure lover. The traditional name of this is the "Chadar trek", named after the frozen river, which is only route in and out for Zanskaris in wintertime when all other paths are blocked due to the heavy snowfall. It has been a trade route for centuries for the Zanskari people, but it is now famous for winter trekking amongst adventurers. For several years, we have been organising this winter trek with trained local Zanskari porters and our well-experienced guides and staff.

Zanskar is an extremely isolated region, made inaccessible for 8 months a year due to the heavy snowfall that block all entrances and exits. It is the least visited region in Ladhak, which has allowed its 10,000 inhabitants to protect and develop their cultural identity that is strongly influenced by Tibetan culture and the esoteric philosophies of Buddhism. Trekking along the frozen river allows you to discover this picturesque region during the winter and to get a sense of the way of life during this time of year as we cross through villages on the banks of the river. We visit the ancient Karsha and Zangla Monasteries, being reminded all the while of the mysterious Shangri-la. This is a place where time stands still, in the shelter of the Zanskar Mountains.
