Ladakh - the land of high passes
Ladhak is the land of mountain passes, standing at a height of 4 600m with summits that tower between 5 800m and 7 600m. Snow leopards are real altitude predators and we will have the chance to try and spot them between November and March in the Hemis National Park. This is a protected high-altitude park that was created in 1981 in the cold, desert part of East Ladhak in order to protect its rare plant and wildlife. It covers 600m² in the Markha and Rumbak Valleys. The snow leopard is the rarest animal in Ladakh, although there is also the “Kyang” or the wild horse and in lower altitudes, the rare but valuable musk-deer.
Wildlife in the Hemis National Park
Trek through the Hemis National Park, with its rich and varied flora and fauna. It is made up of alpine forests, with fir and birch trees, where visitors can observe marmots, red foxes, ibex, wolves and snow partridges. However, there are many more species that can be spotted and more still that live outside of the tourist’s sphere.
