An ancient Trade Route
The Nubra Valley is 150km away from Leh, the capital of Ladakh. The average altitude is 3 048m and the majority of its inhabitants are Buddhist Ladakhis, although there is a small Muslim minority. This valley is situated on the Chinese-Indian border and was once a busy trade route. Today the only way to access the valley is through the Kardang La mountain pass, which has an altitude of 5 359m.
The attractions of the valley
When in Leh, we spend a few days exploring the delights of the Indus Valley, allowing us to acclimatise at the same time. This trek takes us to across new and exciting destinations in the Nubra Valley, including the Tak Tok cave-monastery and Lake Pangong on the Tibetan border. On our return route to Leh, we will have the opportunity to visit the most beautiful monasteries of the region.
