Mostly covered by mountains, dense forests (80%) and rich fertile plains, Laos homes around 130 ethnic minorities !!! It is a goldmine for ethnologists and travelers. Akha, Yao, Khmu, H'mong, Lahu, Tay... The mountain people have little contact with the outside world. Laos was a strong kingdom from the 14th to the 18th century, this was mainly due to its rich natural ressources and its stategic location at crossroad sof commercial routes.

Seven day trek in the province of Luang Namtha, in north-western Laos. Mountainous and forested region close to the Chinese and Burmese borders. This region alone, homes 20 ethnical minorities. You will hike, eat and sleep amongst the Khmu and Akha people; traditionnally opium producers recycled into cattle herders, farmers and hunters. From village to village, along the trail, crossing rice paddies, you will have many opportunities to meet the local tribal population.
