Desert

Close to the Algerian border lies the mountainous massif of the Akakus. Chiseled away by time, wind and water, this is one of the most spectacular regions of the Libyan Dessert. At 200km long, it is an extension of the Tadrart in Algeria, formed from incredible rocky peaks, needles, toadstools and arches. It almost looks like a scene from a science fiction film! At the heart of the massif are engravings and cave paintings that are classed as being part of mankind’s world heritage.

We will follow this trek at camels pace, taking advantage of the peaceful environment where the rhythm of life is dictated by the ceremonial drinking of tea. In the evenings we eat traditional meals that have been prepared by the Touaregs who accompany us. We end this amazing experience by visiting the historical sites of Leptis Magna and Sabratha.
