The Perfect Trek for a Beginner
Nature has certainly been kind to the Annapurna region. Easily accessible but very rewarding, this picturesque and fascinating trek starts from Pokhara, from where we drive to the Nayapul and then trek to Birethanti. These are gentle treks that introduce you to what trekking is all about. This trek is designed for beginners and is for people who have never trekked before. Crossing terraced fields and rhododendron forests, you will be taken to charming Gurung villages with their mud houses with thatched roofs. We will visit mainly low-lying areas and will not go beyond 4,000m of altitude. The terrain is usually straight-forward and does not require negotiating steep climbs and descents. Anyone who is healthy and enjoys the outdoors can easily take part in this trek.
The Gurungs - between Hinduism and Buddhism
The ethnic group Gurung, local to Nepal, is considered by ethnoligists to be of Mongolian or Hun descent. Providing most of the Gurkha bataillons, they are world-famous soldiers that have shown a remarkable ease in adapting to the modern world wherever they have been stationed. However, on their own home territory they continue to proudly defend their individual traditions, which combine Tibetan Hinduism and Buddhism.
