| The Nepalese 'Wild West' |
Journey to a remote north-western destination in Nepal via its least-travelled path, through a land of snow leopards and blue sheep. It is an extension of the Tibetan plateau, lying midway between the Tibetan Plateau and the Dhaulagiri Himal range and is one of the highest inhabited lands of Dolpo. The entire district was closed to trekkers until 1989, when the southern part of Dolpo was opened to organized trekking groups. It holds rich Buddhist and ancient Bon Po culture, religion, and breathtaking scenery. |

| The Shey-Phoksundo national park |
The National Park is located in the mountain region of western Nepal, covering parts of the Dolpo and Mugu districts. It is the largest national park in the country, covering 3500km squared, with most of it above 4 000m. The park contains thick forests, full of blue pine, spruce, cypress, poplar, fir and birch trees. The Trans-Himalayan area has a near-desert type vegetation. The park provides a prime habitat for the snow leopard, blue sheep, Himalayan black bear, wolf, jackel, ghoral, and rhesus monkeys. |
