Due to Ussuri's location at the tip of Eurasia, with a polar influence in winter and a monsoons in the summer, this region has developed a unique mixture of species, typical to the northern taïga and southern subtropics. It has the highest flora and fauna diversity in Russia as well as a great number of endemic and rare species. The end of the last ‘big freeze’ left behind ancient species that survived and now coexist with new ones, therefore creating a very specific ecosystem in Ussuri.
