Golden Mountains
In the heart of Asia, on the borders of Kazakhstan, Mongolia and China; spreading over 2 000km from the North to the South East, this mountain range is the natural border between the barren steppes of Mongolia and the rich taïga of southern Siberia. The wild grandeur of the mountains coupled with the peaceful and picturesque landscapes of the alpine meadows make this one of the most scenic areas in Russia.
The heart of the sacred Shambala
This trek takes you through the west and east of the Katunsky ridge, following the natural loop formed by the Akkem, Kucherla and Katun rivers. You will admire Mt Belukha's (4 503m) glacier, the highest peak in Siberia, as you travel along the Kucherla gorge and up to the Kucherla lake, where the turqouise water reflects the stunning glacier of Mt Belukha. At your own pace, you will visit blossoming river valleys and multicoloured lakes, immersing yourself in the wild nature of this region. You will have the opportunity to see siberian brown bears, siberian wapiti, musk deer, sable, ibex and perhaps even the elusive snow leopard. A real Mekka for mountaineers and artists.
